SUNY Potsdam student Conor Callan has been honored for his outstanding undergraduate work by being recognized with two academic awards.

Thirteen SUNY Potsdam students were recently inducted into Phi Alpha Theta, the national historical honor society.

The SUNY Potsdam Department of History recently selected four outstanding students as the 2022 Departmental Scholars.

The Ilse J. Shaw History Award goes to the senior history major with the best scholarship and highest cumulative GPA in history courses during his or her undergraduate career.

This scholarship is awarded to the outstanding junior history major based on the student's overall GPA, their GPA in history, and the department's knowledge of the student. The scholarship was established by the wife of the former priest of Potsdam's Trinity Episcopal Church and mayor of Potsdam.

This is an award to recognize an outstanding seminar paper written in HIST 480, and it commemorates the former chair of the Social Studies Department, who served from 1941 to 1964.

This scholarship is awarded to a student, preferably from St. Lawrence County, who is majoring in history and who can be expected to achieve an average of 3.25 in history courses and 3.0 GPA overall. Dr. Robert L. Briggs was a valued member of the history faculty from 1961 to his retirement in 1985.

This award goes to a freshman or sophomore student who has demonstrated outstanding performance in an American history survey course during the preceding calendar year. It was established in honor of Dr. Robert L. Briggs, a valued member of the history faculty from 1961 to his retirement in 1985.

SUNY Potsdam student Daniel Mariano has been honored for his outstanding undergraduate work by being recognized with an academic award and a scholarship.

This award is for outstanding performance by a freshman or sophomore in a world history course during the preceding calendar year. The award honors Dr. John F. Schwaller, a colonial Latin American historian, who served as the college President from 2006 to 2013.

A group of hard-working SUNY Potsdam undergraduates are spending the next few months conducting a national sample survey on the impact of COVID on public opinion. Led by Dr. Robert Hinckley, an associate professor and chair of SUNY Potsdam's Department of Politics, the students are earning academic credit and valuable firsthand experience in public opinion research.

Ten students from SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music recently competed in the National Trumpet Competition, held at the University of Colorado - Boulder. The Crane Trumpet Studio ensemble advanced to the finals with their performance of "Dance of the Knights" from "Romeo and Juliet" by Sergei Prokofiev, arranged by Marcus Grant.

SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will highlight the talent and artistry of its top students in the annual Student Honors Recital, on Tuesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m., in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater. This special concert will feature students selected by professors to represent their respective performance areas, including brass, guitar/harp, percussion, piano, strings, woodwinds and voice.

SUNY Potsdam's Department of Business Administration recently hosted its Business Plan and Product Prototype Competition, which challenges students to develop an entrepreneurial business plan fulfilling the need of a specific group of consumers. In the Fall 2021 semester, two teams of students took home the trophy.

The Dr. Bruce McBride Criminal Justice Student Achievement Award is given annually at the SUNY Police Chiefs Conference, in recognition of Dr. McBride's contributions to SUNY University Police. It is awarded to a student who has demonstrated contributions to personal safety on campus, and who is actively pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Through the Presidential Scholars Program, motivated and talented SUNY Potsdam students are given the opportunity to create their own independent project and to more fully develop their interests and intellect. The Presidential Scholars Program provides recognition and additional financial resources to students who have achieved academic excellence and who demonstrate a commitment to their own academic progress.

The University Police/Criminal Justice Scholarship is a $600 award, and is given yearly to a junior or senior, who has declared a criminal justice major and is in good academic standing. Preference is given to a student who is enrolled in the SUNY Potsdam Law Enforcement Training Institute.

SUNY Potsdam's Department of Theatre and Dance is set to present its fall mainstage production of "Ready Steady Yeti Go," featuring talented students in the cast and crew.

POTSDAM, N.Y.-100 SUNY Potsdam student-athletes, including nine two-sport athletes, have earned a spot on the State University of New York Athletic Conference's Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. The honor roll recognizes athletes with a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average for the entire 2020-21 academic year.

This award is presented on occasion to seniors who distinguish themselves in philosophical inquiry and show exceptional dedication to, and scholarly ability in, the discipline of philosophy.

The Department of Philosophy honors its 2021 Departmental Scholar. To achieve the honor, a student must earn an average of 3.50 or better.

The Canfield Scholarship is awarded each spring to an outstanding sophomore or junior philosophy major at SUNY Potsdam. The selection is based on achievement, demonstrated ability, and potential for further professional growth.
