The State University of New York at Potsdam recently named 245 students who excelled academically in the Fall 2020 semester to the College's Dean's List.

The State University of New York at Potsdam recently named 1,046 students to the President's List, in recognition of their academic excellence in the Fall 2020 semester. The SUNY Potsdam students were honored for earning top marks by President Kristin G. Esterberg.

121 SUNY Potsdam student-athletes, including 18 two-sport athletes, have earned a spot on the State University of New York Athletic Conference's Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. The honor roll recognizes athletes with a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average for the entire 2019-20 academic year.

The Ilse J. Shaw History Award goes to the senior history major with the best scholarship and highest cumulative GPA in history courses during his or her undergraduate career.

This scholarship is awarded to the outstanding junior history major based on the student's overall GPA, their GPA in history, and the department's knowledge of the student. The scholarship was established by the wife of the former priest of Potsdam's Trinity Episcopal Church and mayor of Potsdam.

This is an award to recognize an outstanding seminar paper written in HIST 480, and it commemorates the former chair of the Social Studies Department who served from 1941 to 1964.

This scholarship is awarded to a student, preferably from St. Lawrence County, who is majoring in history and who can be expected to achieve an average of 3.25 in history courses and 3.0 GPA overall. Dr. Robert L. Briggs was a valued member of the history faculty from 1961 to his retirement in 1985.

This award goes to a freshman or sophomore student who has demonstrated outstanding performance in a European history survey course during the preceding calendar year. The award honors Dr. Walter L. Wakefield, European Historian with the department from 1948 to 1976, and who was sometimes Chair of the department.

This award is for outstanding performance by a freshman or sophomore in a world history course during the preceding calendar year. The award honors Dr. John F. Schwaller, a colonial Latin American historian, who served as the college President from 2006 to 2013.

This award goes to a freshman or sophomore student who has demonstrated outstanding performance in an American history survey course during the preceding calendar year. It was established in honor of Dr. Robert L. Briggs, a valued member of the history faculty from 1961 to his retirement in 1985.

This award is for an outstanding performance by a student in public history. The award commemorates Dr. M. J. Heisey, a longtime member and former Chair of the Department of History, who dedicated her career to researching and teaching public history and oral history. She retired in 2019.

The student chosen must display strong academic excellence within the International Studies major.

The John Massaro Politics Recognition Award is given to a student who displays a high a level of creativity, leadership, or charisma outside the classroom, above and beyond their coursework.

The Department of Politics selects outstanding senior majors with the highest politics GPA, who have taken at least 5 courses (with at least 2 at the upper-division level) in the department to be named the Departmental Scholar. The student must also have a minimum overall GPA of 3.25.

This award is given to a Political Science or International Studies major who, through their efforts in any combination of student clubs, co-curricular events, or other service activities associated with the Department of Politics, contributes to upholding Dr. Neisser's vision of the department as a place of inclusion, excellence and open dialogue.

The International Studies Award was created to recognize outstanding academic ability and great potential for further intellectual and professional development of a student majoring in international studies. This award encourages students to deepen their understanding of international events, cross-cultural interactions and the world around them, through academic and experiential learning.

Allen J. Danks was a 1978 graduate of SUNY Potsdam with a major in Political Science. He was awarded a Lehman Scholarship and went on to do his graduate work at Columbia University. He is remembered as a man of great intellect who believed in making a positive and heartfelt contribution to the world around him and who gave of himself for the benefit of others. At his death in 1991 at the age of 35, his classmates at Potsdam endowed this award in his honor to help an undergraduate at the College who is active in social, community and/or political issues.

This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding sophomore politics major. The Rebecca R. Pratt Scholarship for Excellence in Politics was created by a friend of the Pratt family in memory of Rebecca Pratt, who was a 1997 politics graduate of SUNY Potsdam.

The Caneld Scholarship is awarded each spring to an outstanding junior or senior politics major. The selection is based on achievement, demonstrated ability, and potential for further professional growth.

The State University of New York at Potsdam will recognize nearly 900 candidates for graduation with a special virtual Commencement celebration on Saturday, May 23 at 10 a.m. The SUNY Potsdam Class of 2020 will be honored in an online ceremony and watch party on the traditional Commencement day, until the College is able to safely hold an in-person event honoring all of this year's bachelor's and master's graduates at a later date.

This scholarship is awarded each year to a SUNY Potsdam sophomore or junior political science major who maintains a GPA at the Dean's List level or higher.

The Richard Del Guidice Scholarship is an award created by alumni and friends of the Politics Department on the occasion of Professor Del Guidice's retirement in 2002. The endowment provides an annual scholarship to a junior Pre-Law student to assist in paying the costs associated with taking the Law School Admission Test and applying to various law schools.

Two outstanding SUNY Potsdam graduates have been recognized as the academic honorees for the Class of 2020. The award recipients are chosen by Faculty Senate and are specially recognized during Commencement.

Two outstanding SUNY Potsdam students were recently among those honored with the 2020 Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.

Twenty SUNY Potsdam students were recently inducted into Phi Alpha Theta, the national historical honor society.

The SUNY Potsdam Department of History recently selected four outstanding students as the 2020 Departmental Scholars.

Three SUNY Potsdam students were inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, this semester.

Abigail Tessier had her artwork, "Swirl Girl," chosen for the 2020 College Student Juried Art Exhibit at the Frederic Remington Museum in Ogdensburg, NY.
