SUNY Potsdam Student Awarded Allen J. Danks Memorial Scholarship

Allen J. Danks was a 1978 graduate of SUNY Potsdam with a major in Political Science. He was awarded a Lehman Scholarship and went on to do his graduate work at Columbia University. He is remembered as a man of great intellect who believed in making a positive and heartfelt contribution to the world around him and who gave of himself for the benefit of others. At his death in 1991 at the age of 35, his classmates at Potsdam endowed this award in his honor to help an undergraduate at the College who is active in social, community and/or political issues.

SUNY Potsdam Student Awarded Dr. Poeliu Dai Scholarship

Candidates for this award will be, in most cases, a SUNY Potsdam sophomore or junior politics or international studies major, who have maintained an overall GPA at the Dean's List level (3.25) or higher. The award is renewable for three years (until graduation), contingent upon the maintenance of a GPA above 3.25.

The Richard Del Guidice Scholarship is an award created by alumni and friends of the Politics Department on the occasion of Professor Del Guidice's retirement in 2002. This scholarship is awarded to the outstanding junior history major based on the student's overall GPA, their GPA in history, and the department's knowledge of the student. The scholarship was established by the wife of the former priest of Potsdam's Trinity Episcopal Church and mayor of Potsdam.

This scholarship is awarded to a student, preferably from St. Lawrence County, who is majoring in history and who can be expected to achieve an average of 3.25 in history courses and 3.0 GPA overall. Dr. Robert L. Briggs was a valued member of the history faculty from 1961 to his retirement in 1985.

Ten students from SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music recently competed in the National Trumpet Competition, held at the University of Colorado - Boulder. The Crane Trumpet Studio ensemble advanced to the finals with their performance of "Dance of the Knights" from "Romeo and Juliet" by Sergei Prokofiev, arranged by Marcus Grant.

SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will highlight the talent and artistry of its top students in the annual Student Honors Recital, on Tuesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m., in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater. This special concert will feature students selected by professors to represent their respective performance areas, including brass, guitar/harp, percussion, piano, strings, woodwinds and voice.
