SUNY Potsdam

The recipient(s) of this scholarship are selected annually by the SUNY Potsdam Scholarship Coordinator and the faculty of the SUNY Potsdam Department of Philosophy. Recipients must be full-time undergraduates in good academic standing, who are entering the junior or senior year of study with a declared major in and a demonstrated passion for the study of philosophy.

The Women's and Gender Studies Junior Scholar Award, initiated in 1994 to celebrate women's and gender studies student excellence, is presented annually to a junior women's and gender studies major or minor who most clearly exhibits academic excellence both in women's and gender studies courses and in overall academic pursuits.

SUNY Potsdam recently honored 14 students for excellence, with awards from the Department of Theatre and Dance.

Faculty in SUNY Potsdam's Department of Art selected outstanding students as First-Year Scholars.

This scholarship is awarded to outstanding junior history majors based on the students' overall GPA, their GPA in history, and the department's knowledge of the student. The scholarship was established by the wife of the former priest of Potsdam's Trinity Episcopal Church and mayor of Potsdam.

This award is presented annually to the student who demonstrates the greatest achievement and promise in creative writing.

This is an award to recognize an outstanding paper submitted in a departmental seminar, and it commemorates the former chair of the Social Studies Department, who served from 1941 to 1964.

SUNY Potsdam's Department of Business Administration recently hosted its 60th Business Plan Competition, which challenges students to develop an entrepreneurial business plan fulfilling the need of a specific group of consumers.

Five students from SUNY Potsdam's Department of Business Administration recently competed in the International Business Ethics Case Competition, held at the University of Massachusetts Amherst's Mount Ida Campus.

Ten SUNY Potsdam students recently completed the Women, Gender and Leadership specialty badge through the College's Summit Leadership Program.

The State University of New York at Potsdam will recognize the Class of 2024 during the College's 204th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 18.

The Erin O'Brien Women's and Gender Studies Activism Award is presented to a women's and gender studies student who most clearly exhibits both academic excellence and commitment to feminist activism.

The Women's and Gender Studies Senior Scholar Award, initiated in 1994 to celebrate women's and gender studies student excellence, is presented annually to a graduating senior women's and gender studies major or minor at SUNY Potsdam who most clearly exhibits academic excellence both in the field's coursework and in their overall academic pursuits.

The K. Dunkley Award for Performance and Creative Excellence in Dance is awarded to a dance major or minor who has demonstrated consistent growth and outstanding achievement in scholarship, creative activity and taken leadership and initiative in collaborative performance groups.

This award is established in memory of Dr. Susan Mallon Ross, a professor at SUNY Potsdam from 1996 to 2004. The award is given to a senior for outstanding scholarship in mass communication.

The Elsie D. Kristiansen Public Speaking Award is presented to a communication student for the best public speaking presentation in a communication class.

This funding may be presented to a deserving student, or used for faculty development priorities, or acquisition of materials for faculty or student use, or technology or any need determined by the Department of Modern Languages as deemed appropriate for the growth and success of the program and the individual faculty and students working within it.

The Signum Laudis Award for Excellence in Classical Studies is presented to a junior or senior student who best exemplifies the intellectual and interdisciplinary ideals of classical studies.

This award is presented to an Arabic Studies minor who is pursuing academic endeavors.

The Eva Strait-Dean Award is presented to an outstanding North Country student majoring in speech communication at SUNY Potsdam. The selected student must have demonstrated personal initiative by one or more of the following: verified part-time employment, completion of internships and/or overcoming a substantial hardship. Special consideration will be given to students with a double major or minor in politics.

The Excellence in Academics Scholarship is presented annually to recognize outstanding student pursuit in academics and/or research. Recipients also have noteworthy evidence of academic contribution and a distinguished GPA.

The Kelsie Harder Award is given in memory of Dr. Harder, a SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor, who served as the English and Communication Department Chair and faculty member from 1964 until his retirement in 1994.

This award is presented annually by the SUNY Potsdam Department of English to an outstanding senior, as determined by achievement in coursework and excellence in writing.

The Maurice Kenny Creative Writing Award is presented annually to the graduating senior showing the greatest promise and achievement in creative writing.

The Israel Kaplan English Essay Award is presented for the best literary essay written for an English class at SUNY Potsdam.

The St. Lawrence River Patrons of the Arts Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students studying the arts at SUNY Potsdam.

The McCall Family Scholarship is a renewal scholarship which is awarded each year to a rising sophomore majoring in art studio, art education, art history, or a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree program, who has shown potential for success in their major and is in good academic standing.

The Marty Phillips Scholarship is awarded each spring to an outstanding junior or senior art major. The selection is based on achievement, demonstrated ability and potential for further professional growth.

The Lucy Dai Scholarship is awarded each year to outstanding sophomores who intend to declare a major in art and who show exceptional promise as artists and teachers of art, and remain in good academic standing.

The D. Allen Edrington Scholarship is awarded each year to an outstanding junior or senior art student, who graduated from a high school in St. Lawrence County, and who has demonstrated artistic ability.
