SUNY Potsdam Recognizes 2015 Graduates at Commencement

The State University of New York at Potsdam recognized more than 1,000 candidates for graduation during the College's 2015 Commencement celebrations. SUNY Potsdam honored students who either earned their degree or were eligible to graduate between December 2014 and December 2015.

SUNY Potsdam Students Awarded 2015 PACES Scholarships

Six SUNY Potsdam students were recently awarded the 2015 PACES Scholarships, by Potsdam Auxiliary and College Educational Services. PACES Scholarships are given to children of PACES employees or PACES student workers who apply and demonstrate notable achievement in academics and co-curricular activities. These scholarships are funded by PACES employee contributions and matched by the corporation.

SUNY Potsdam Students Receive 2015 PACES Awards

Three SUNY Potsdam students were recently honored with the 2015 PACES Student Awards, presented by Potsdam Auxiliary and College Educational Services. The awards recognize graduating seniors who have excelled academically while providing exceptional service to the College. They must also be engaged in student life activities while maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Three outstanding SUNY Potsdam students were recently among those honored with the 2015 Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence. Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher presented the awards to students from across the SUNY system in a ceremony held in Albany.

SUNYAC Commissioner's List

SUNY Potsdam student-athletes competing in fall sports were recognized by the State University of New York Athletic Conference for their academic success during the Fall 2014 semester the league announced Wednesday, February 12. A total of 23 student-athletes were given Commissioner's List accolades. Players named to this list have carried a minimum 3.3 grade-point-average over three consecutive semesters at Potsdam.

SUNYAC All-Academic Honors

SUNY Potsdam student-athletes competing in fall sports were recognized by the State University of New York Athletic Conference for their academic success during the Fall 2014 semester the league announced Wednesday, February 12. A total of 42 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Team, 23 to the Commissioner's List and 21 were named to both categories.

SUNY Potsdam Students Study Ancient Mathematics in Mexico

Students and faculty from SUNY Potsdam's Department of Mathematics recently journeyed to Mexico for an intensive Winterim travel course delving into the origins of math. Led by Dr. Cheryl Miller and Dr. Blair Madore, 11 students studied ancient mathematics and learned about Mexican culture while taking part in hands-on activities and field trips, from Jan. 2 to Jan. 15.

SUNY Potsdam and Crane School of Music Students Intern at the 2015 NAMM Show

SUNY Potsdam student interns traveled to the 2015 National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Show in Anaheim, Calif., from Jan. 21 to 24. Joined by faculty from The Crane School of Music, the students worked directly with leading music industry firms, through a unique internship program organized by the Crane Institute for Music Business and Entrepreneurship -- the only ongoing program of its kind in the country.

SUNY Potsdam's internship program places students with employers whose interests align with their studies. Crane Symphony Orchestra Performs at NYSSMA Conference

The Crane Symphony Orchestra from SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music has been invited to perform at the New York State School Music Association Winter Conference in Rochester, N.Y. Eighty students will present Edward Elgar's "Enigma Variations" on Thursday, Dec. 4, in the opening concert.

The Art Museum at SUNY Potsdam will showcase works by 21 students for Art Attack, the upcoming juried exhibition featuring student works. The annual show will open on Nov. 20 and close on Dec. 6.

Crane School of Music Students Perform for Guitar Symposium in NYC

Two Crane School of Music students were invited to perform at the Guitar Foundation of America Regional Symposium in New York City on Oct. 25. SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music was one of only four music schools from New York State to be invited to perform at the College Guitar Ensemble Showcase at the symposium, which was hosted by the New York City Classical Guitar Society.

Ten accomplished SUNY Potsdam fraternity and sorority members were inducted into the Chi Psi chapter of the Order of Omega National Honor Society on Oct. 26. The Order of Omega is the national leadership honor society for members of Greek organizations, recognizing men and women who set a higher standard for Greek Life.

Crane School of Music Students to Premiere Three New Operatic Works

Students at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will premiere the three winning operatic works of the Domenic J. Pellicciotti Opera Composition Prize next week. The student cast and crew will be able to meet the composers and librettists of the three winning works, "A Letter to East 11th Street," "In a Mirror, Darkly," and "The Fox and the Pomegranate." Performances are from Nov. 13 to Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at The Crane School of Music.
