Ten-Minute Play Festival Returns to SUNY Potsdam Stage

SUNY Potsdam's Department of Theatre and Dance Presents Series of Short Dramatic Works in Student-Led Festival from Nov. 14 to 16

Potsdam, NY (10/18/2019) — SUNY Potsdam's Department of Theatre and Dance will present its annual Ten-Minute Play Festival from Nov. 14 to 16 in the Black Box Theater, located in the College's Performing Arts Center.

Six student directors have chosen professional plays from a variety of styles and themes within the 10-minute genre. Working with nine student actors, these directors have developed their artistic process throughout the semester, by casting and rehearsing the plays, and assisting with the theatrical elements of the final presentation.

The Ten-Minute Play Festival performances will be offered from Thursday, Nov. 14 to Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the Black Box Theater. The Thursday performance is an invited dress rehearsal. There will be a post-show question and answer session on Friday evening with the student directors.

The festival is free and open to the public. Free tickets will be available at the door. Please be advised that some plays contain content which is suitable for mature audiences only.

The plays for this year's festival are:

  • "Dream Lover and Absent Grace" by Michael Weems and Claudia Barnett, directed by Rachael Clements
  • "Research Subjects or That Creepy Guy Taping Me in My Sleep" by Erin Moughon, directed by Kyle Lonsdale
  • "Monica Before and After" by Daniel Ho, directed by Nicholas Chadwell
  • "Goat" by Don Nigro, directed by Joshua Wilson
  • "Men in Heat" by Dana Yeaton, directed by Alex Rodriguez
  • "A Couple of Metal Gods Sitting Around Talking" by Trace Crawford, directed by Tyler Foulkrod

The student actors for the festival include Andrea Dempsey, Riley Keyser, Alex Marinaccio, Alice Menis, Hana Nitkowski, Dalton Peek, Linck Rossano, Karlee Square and Monti Wilkins.

Faculty advisors for the festival are Todd Canedy (design), Tom Grabowski (lighting design) and Joshua Vink (directing).
