SUNY Potsdam Announces Return of Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series

SUNY Potsdam Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series Features Free Fall Talks on Range of Topics

Potsdam, NY (08/21/2026) — SUNY Potsdam will welcome back guests and faculty for the 2026-27 Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series again this academic year.

The line-up of speakers for the Fall 2026 semester will cover a range of topics, including mathematics education, preservice teacher experiences and the importance of extracurricular activities, all led by faculty and students in the Department of Teacher Education.

The Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series is sponsored by SUNY Potsdam's School of Education and Professional Studies. Since its inception in 2007, the School has hosted more than 190 presentations as part of the annual seminar.

All seminar meetings will be offered on Wednesdays, on the Rebecca V. Sheard Literacy Center balcony, from noon to 1 p.m. There will also be a virtual viewing option available via Zoom. These events are free, and the public is welcome to attend.

  • Sept. 9: Laura Griffin, Pooja Saxena and Sarah Solley: "Pre-Service Teacher Perceptions of Conceptual Reasoning in Elementary Mathematics: A Discourse Analysis"
  • Sept. 23: Gabriela Mocanu, Tiffany Thompson and Pamela Gleisner: "Unmasking the Script: Voices of Pre-Service Teachers Navigating Mandated Instruction"
  • Oct. 21: Sergei Abramovich: "On the Importance of Correct Answers in Fostering Accuracy in Making Claims"
  • Oct. 28: Holly Marcolina: "Extracurriculars Aren't Extra: Reimagining Rural Teacher Preparation"
