Crane School of Music to Honor Life and Legacy of Late Faculty Member Julie Welsh Miller

SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music Honors the Late Instructor of Piano Julie Welsh Miller with Special Concert on May 3

Potsdam, NY (04/28/2026) — SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will gather to remember the life and legacy of one of their own, Julie Welsh Miller, in a special concert this weekend. The performance will bring together students and faculty members, past and present, in tribute to the memory of long-time Instructor of Piano Julie Welsh Miller, who died on May 4, 2025.

"Living Memories: A Celebration of Julie Miller" will be held on Sunday, May 3 at 3 p.m., in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater. This event is free and open to all who wish to remember Miller and her impact on the Crane community.

Crane Interim Dean Dr. David Heuser will provide opening remarks. The program includes well-loved classics and a series of works by composer Keith Gates, whose works Miller championed. Her daughter, Sarah, will share her memories of her mother, and Crane Dean Emeritus Dr. Michael Sitton is set to lead the closing remarks.

  • Christopher Keach, trumpet
  • Colleen Skull, soprano
  • Brock Tjosvold, piano
  • Lola Gehman '26, viola
  • Jacob Frenyea '24, baritone
  • Julianne Kirk Doyle, clarinet
  • Michael Sitton, piano
  • Margaret Chalker, soprano
  • The Celebration Choir, directed by Nils Klykken

A reception will be held immediately afterward, in the Snell Lobby.
