The SUNY Potsdam Department of Mathematics honored two students as its 2022 Mathematics Departmental Scholars. To achieve the honor, a student must earn a mathematics average of 3.50 or better, and a college GPA of 3.50 or better.

The Clarence F. Stephens Mathematics Scholar Award is given to the non-graduating mathematics major who, by his or her achievement in mathematics, best personifies C. F. Stephens' vision of the mathematics student who is becoming all he or she is capable of being. The award is a check from the C. L. Smith Mathematics Scholarship Fund and SUNY Potsdam Foundation. In addition, the recipient is designated a Clarence F. Stephens Mathematics Scholar and his or her name is inscribed on a plaque displayed in Carson Hall. The recipients of the C. F. Stephens Mathematics Scholar Award are chosen by the mathematics faculty.

The Pi Mu Epsilon Senior Award is given by the Pi Mu Epsilon National Mathematics Honor Society chapter at SUNY Potsdam to a graduating senior, in recognition of outstanding achievement in mathematics and for the promotion of scholarly activity in mathematics.

The Mathematics Alumni Award for Excellence in Mathematics was established by the alumni of the SUNY Potsdam Department of Mathematics, and is given to at least one graduating mathematics major chosen by the faculty. Each recipient has his/her name inscribed on a plaque that is on permanent display in the department. Additionally, a monetary award is given for excellence in mathematics to at least one outstanding senior, junior and sophomore mathematics major.

The Susan Dewitt Kaiser Award is given to the graduating mathematics major who has the highest academic average on record prior to the May graduation, who will also graduate with teacher certification, and who has also completed all academic years at SUNY Potsdam. The award was established in 1986 by the family and friends of the late Susan DeWitt Kaiser, mathematics teacher, Class of 1967.

The SUNY Potsdam Department of Chemistry recently selected two outstanding students as the 2022 Departmental Scholars.

Jessie J. McNall, who was Professor Emerita of Science, served as Science Department Chair at SUNY Potsdam for many years prior to her retirement in 1946. She established an endowed fund with the Potsdam College Foundation in order that awards be made to sophomores for excellence in science, especially if preparing for teaching.

This award is given to a senior chemistry student who has demonstrated scholarship, research achievements and potential for further professional growth.

The American Chemical Society Award is given by the Northern New York Section to a chemistry/biochemistry major who has distinguished themselves through outstanding achievement in chemistry or biochemistry.

The Alexander G. Major Award was established in memory of Dr. Major, who served on the faculty of SUNY Potsdam from 1947 to 1973. He was a professor in the Science Department and taught biochemistry. Dr. Major was instrumental in developing the first programs in chemistry and biochemistry. The Major award is given to a student who has demonstrated significant competence in the field of chemistry, biology or biochemistry.

Two outstanding SUNY Potsdam graduates have been recognized as the academic honorees for the Class of 2022. The award recipients are chosen by Faculty Senate and are specially recognized during Commencement.

Two outstanding SUNY Potsdam students were recently among those honored with the 2022 Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.

The John Massaro Politics Recognition Award is given to a student who displays a high a level of creativity, leadership, or charisma outside the classroom, above and beyond their coursework.

The award is given to an outstanding graduating senior pre-law student in the SUNY Potsdam Department of Politics.

The International Studies Award was created to recognize outstanding academic ability and great potential for further intellectual and professional development of a student majoring in international studies. This award encourages students to deepen their understanding of international events, cross-cultural interactions and the world around them, through academic and experiential learning.

SUNY Potsdam student Kaitlyn Rivera has been honored for his outstanding undergraduate work by being recognized with two academic awards.

The SUNY Potsdam Department of History recently selected four outstanding students as the 2022 Departmental Scholars.

The Ilse J. Shaw History Award goes to the senior history major with the best scholarship and highest cumulative GPA in history courses during his or her undergraduate career.

This is an award to recognize an outstanding seminar paper written in HIST 480, and it commemorates the former chair of the Social Studies Department, who served from 1941 to 1964.

This award goes to a freshman or sophomore student who has demonstrated outstanding performance in an American history survey course during the preceding calendar year. It was established in honor of Dr. Robert L. Briggs, a valued member of the history faculty from 1961 to his retirement in 1985.

SUNY Potsdam student Daniel Mariano has been honored for his outstanding undergraduate work by being recognized with an academic award and a scholarship.

This award is for outstanding performance by a freshman or sophomore in a world history course during the preceding calendar year. The award honors Dr. John F. Schwaller, a colonial Latin American historian, who served as the college President from 2006 to 2013.

SUNY Potsdam's Department of Business Administration recently hosted its Business Plan and Product Prototype Competition, which challenges students to develop an entrepreneurial business plan fulfilling the need of a specific group of consumers. In the Fall 2021 semester, two teams of students took home the trophy.

This award is presented on occasion to seniors who distinguish themselves in philosophical inquiry and show exceptional dedication to, and scholarly ability in, the discipline of philosophy.

The Department of Philosophy honors its 2021 Departmental Scholar. To achieve the honor, a student must earn an average of 3.50 or better.

The Philosophy Distinguished Leadership Award is given to senior(s) who have distinguished themselves by their exceptional dedication to philosophical pursuits and outstanding service to the SUNY Potsdam Department of Philosophy.

The Charlie Smith Calculus Prize is a cash award given to the Calculus II student(s) in the spring semester of the year who have the highest score on the common final.

SUNY Potsdam recently recognized students and faculty mentors for excellence in research and creative projects, following the College's 2021 Learning and Research Fair.

This Charlie Smith Calculus Prize is a cash award given to the SUNY Potsdam Calculus I student in the fall of the year that makes the highest score on the common final.
