SUNY Potsdam Welcomes More Than 350 Guests for Friends & Family Weekend

Potsdam, NY (09/23/2026) — SUNY Potsdam is set to welcome more than 350 guests for the College's Family and Friends Weekend, to be held from Friday, Sept. 25 to Sunday, Sept. 27.

"I am so excited for the return of Family and Friends Weekend. We have a fun and engaging lineup of events, and we're thrilled to welcome students' families and friends to campus. From music and athletics to yoga and great food, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy," said First Year Experience Director Meghan Delsite Coleman, who organized the weekend.

Their visit will be filled with activities designed for all ages, opportunities to explore campus and connect with other families and supporters. The packed Family and Friends Weekend schedule includes:

  • Visiting the Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair, hosted by the North Country Partnership for Environmental Action, Community and Sustainability
  • Enjoying choral rehearsals and a special Crane Wind Ensemble performance at The Crane School of Music
  • Yoga surrounded by plants and good vibes in the WISER Greenhouse
  • Open swim and open skate at the Maxcy Hall Athletic Complex
  • Cheering on the Potsdam Bears at the men's soccer game, including free donuts from Glazed and Confused
  • Bowman Blast party, including giant lawn games, family-friendly crafts and other activities, hosted by Residence Life
  • A community dinner with other visiting families and supporters
  • Admission to the Seraph Brass Quintet concert as part of the Community Performance Series and the Crane Brass Summit
  • A final Bear Hug Brunch to cap off the weekend

In an effort to make it easier for families and friends to visit, SUNY Potsdam is offering discounted on-campus lodging, as well as free bus transportation from New York City for guests who may not have easy access to reliable transportation to the North Country.

"At SUNY Potsdam, we know that student success is strengthened by the support of family and friends. Family and Friends Weekend also comes at an important time in the academic year, when some students may begin to feel homesick or overwhelmed by the demands of the semester. Providing an opportunity for them to reconnect with their support systems, spend quality time together, and enjoy campus life can create lasting memories while strengthening their sense of belonging, connection, and overall satisfaction with their college experience," Coleman said.

The weekend is just part of expanded outreach efforts to help families and supporters feel connected. SUNY Potsdam has also launched a Family and Friends Hub, with updates, important information and resources created especially for families, as well as introducing special events as part of Orientation and the First Year Experience.
