SUNY Potsdam to Rededicate Satterlee Hall Clocktower

SUNY Potsdam to Hold Rededication Ceremony for Newly Restored Satterlee Hall Clocktower on April 25

Potsdam, NY (04/18/2025) — SUNY Potsdam will celebrate the restoration of its landmark next week, with the rededication of the newly refurbished Satterlee Hall clocktower.

The College will mark the occasion with a rededication ceremony and reception, on Friday, April 25, at 11:45 a.m., in the Academic Quad. There will be brief remarks in the Quad, before all pause to hear the chime of the carillon playing the campus "Alma Mater" at noon.

Joel Satterlee '92, grandson of O. Ward Satterlee, for whom the building was named, will speak at the ceremony, along with Alumni Association President Sarah Mack '04. Other guests will include students, faculty, staff, alumni and representatives from the architects, contractors and staff who made the project possible.

Immediately following the ceremony, there will be a gathering with refreshments in the Satterlee Hall lobby. Guests will also be invited to learn more about campus history by touring the Mary English Commons inside Satterlee Hall. This event is free, and the public is invited to attend.

This project was funded thanks to critical maintenance funding from the SUNY Construction Fund, restoring the iconic Satterlee Hall clocktower to its original beauty and functionality. The complete refurbishment of the clocktower began immediately after Commencement 2024. The face and millwork were refurbished to preserve the beautiful structure, with materials designed to better withstand North Country weather.

As part of the project, the clock itself was replaced, as was the carillon within. In the final step, new lights were installed to light the clock faces.
