SUNY Potsdam School of Education & Professional Studies Faculty Publish New Books

SUNY Potsdam Faculty Members Anthony Betrus, Allen Grant & Savita Hanspal Announce New Publications Released This Month

by Bret Yager

Potsdam, NY (02/07/2020) — Three faculty members, three books, one month. Professors at SUNY Potsdam's School of Education and Professional Studies were busy on the publishing front in the month of January.

Dr. Anthony Betrus, a professor of educational technology and management, as well as SUNY Potsdam's Esports director, has co-authored a textbook titled "Digital Media for Learning: Theories, Processes, and Solutions." The book gives a comprehensive framework for effectively creating, using and managing digital media in various instructional settings. The book delves into instructional videos, instructional simulations and games, online learning, mobile learning and emerging learning technologies, and draws on multiple case studies from real world projects in various instructional settings.

Dr. Allen Grant, dean of The School of Education and Professional Studies, has co-authored a new edition of "Learning in Information-Rich Environments." The book tackles key questions about what learning means in an environment where boundless information is just a click away, and what concepts, strategies, attitudes and skills educators and students need for learning in this new environment. This second edition attempts to answer these questions, drawing from the three related fields of learning theory, instructional systems design and information studies. It also provides an updated research and theory base, and a collection of instructional scenarios.

Dr. Savita Hanspal, a SUNY Potsdam assistant professor of business administration, has co-authored a book titled "Consumer Affairs and Customer Care." With increasing consumerism in a free-trade economy, there is an urgent need to create consumer awareness at the grassroots level, beginning with the student community. The text articulates important reading and reference material for consumers from every layer of society, thereby empowering people -- individually and collectively -- to exercise their rights and responsibilities consciously. At SUNY Potsdam, Hanspal's course offerings include instruction in global and digital marketing. The book is a revised and updated version of "Consumer Affairs," first published in 2007.

The School of Education and Professional Studies at SUNY Potsdam has been preparing educators for more than 200 years. Today, that legacy of educational excellence also stretches to undergraduate and graduate programs in business administration, public health and human performance, to help students prepare for professions in the global economy.
