SUNY Potsdam's WISER Greenhouse Hosts Honey Harvest Hoedown and Pollinator Jamboree

Local Living Venture Offers Second Honey Harvest Hoedown and Pollinator Jamboree at SUNY Potsdam on Sept. 8

Potsdam, NY (09/06/2018) — The second annual Honey Harvest Hoedown and Pollinator Jamboree, a public celebration of bees and other pollinators, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 2 to 5 p.m., at Stowell Hall on the SUNY Potsdam campus. The free family-friendly event will include demonstrations, honey-based food, music and films.

This event is free and open to the public, with coordination and sponsorship by the Wagner Institute for Sustainability and Ecological Research at SUNY Potsdam, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe's Environmental Division and the Local Living Venture, in partnership with the SUNY Potsdam Environmental Club and PACES Dining Services.

The events begin at 2 p.m., with a free viewing of various short films about the birds, bees, bats, beetles, butterflies and moths that help provide our food and enrich the natural world.

Following the films, from 3 to 5 p.m., there will be a round-robin of exhibitions, including demonstration beehives, brief presentations by insect-lovers with microscopes, music by the Northern Southern Old Time Society Band, delicious honey-based food, a honey-harvesting demonstration and more.

All events will be held offered in Stowell Hall and the WISER Greenhouse at SUNY Potsdam.

Costumed attendants will be on hand to guide visitors to the free parking lot next to the new Performing Arts Center. Lawn signs noting "workshop sites" will also be posted.

This event is free of charge, child-friendly, and open to the public, although donations are welcomed to benefit the Local Living Venture's Pollinator Protection programming.

WISER events are always free for SUNY Potsdam students and this program is made possible in part by funding from a grant by the Alcoa Foundation.
