SUNY Potsdam's Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series Continues in 2022
2022 Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series Kicks Off Again on Feb. 9 at SUNY Potsdam, with Wide-Ranging Array of Talks Planned
Potsdam, NY (01/28/2022) — SUNY Potsdam will continue its Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series with a range of topics across the disciplines in 2022, and is open to the public once again this semester.
Sponsored by SUNY Potsdam's School of Education and Professional Studies, the annual series is celebrating 15 years and more than 140 presentations to date. All seminar meetings will be face-to-face with an online attendance option.
This semester's series will kick off with a tribute to the College's late President Dr. John L. Graham, and reflections on the lessons all can learn from his approach to leadership and education. Upcoming sessions will cover topics as diverse as technology change and advertising, knowledge-building in digital spaces, the history of family literacy campaigns, and social justice pedagogy.
All seminar meetings will be offered on Wednesdays, in the Rebecca V. Sheard Literacy Center balcony, from noon to 1 p.m. (unless otherwise noted). There will also be a virtual viewing option available via Zoom.
The schedule of sessions for the Spring 2022 Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series are as follows:
- Feb. 9: "SUNY Potsdam President Dr. John Leon Graham: In Memoriam," presented by Chief of Staff Nazely Kurkjian (via Zoom only)
- March 2: "Self-Regulation of Advertising," presented by Assistant Professor of Business Administration Dr. Savita Hanspal.
- March 30: "Learn Out Loud: Theory & Practice of Knowledge-Building in Digital Spaces," presented by Assistant Professor of Business Administration Dr. Karen Caldwell.
- April 20: "Reading Education as a Colonizing Practice: The Roots of Lap-Reading from Early Colonial Conversion to Family Literacy Campaigns," presented by Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Advanced Studies in Education Dr. Lynn A. Hall.
- April 27: "Integrating Social Justice Pedagogy into the Classroom: How We Got Here," presented by Assistant Professor and Chair of the Department of Elementary Education Dr. Sarah Solley.
