Potsdam, NY (04/03/2020) — For those who are missing live music performances, SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music has the next best thing. The Crane Encore Performance Series is being offered online, allowing viewers to observe social distancing guidelines while supporting the College and availing themselves of the soothing benefits of performance art during these turbulent times.

The series, offered on Sundays at 7:30 p.m., is a weekly opportunity for the Potsdam community to enjoy past performances of talented Crane School of Music ensembles and performers by viewing them online.

Getting there can be easily done from the comfort of your living room. Go to the Crane School of Music - Live in Concert page found here: https://bit.ly/2xLRVcO. Click on the button that says "Watch the Livestream." Viewers will be directed to the YouTube page for performance offerings and a schedule of the series.

The next performance takes place on Sunday, April 5, with the Arthur Frackenpohl Memorial Concert, which premiered in October 2019. Selections from the concert feature musical works by the late American composer and Professor Emeritus Dr. Arthur Frackenpohl (1924-2019). Eighty Crane School of Music faculty, students and alumni took to the stage to perform a program of Frackenpohl's original works, at the institution where he taught for 36 years.

The upcoming events include:

  • April 12: Collegiate Singers (Brock McElheran, conductor), Handel's "Messiah"
  • April 19: Crane Symphony Orchestra performance (Ching-Chun Lai, conductor), William Grant Still's "First Symphony" and George Walker's "Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra," with alumnus Burt Mason, soloist
  • April 26: Crane Wind Ensemble (Brian Doyle and William Lake, conductors), Casey Grev, saxophone soloist; performance given in spring 2020 at Crane and at the College Band Director's National Association Eastern regional conference in Philadelphia
