SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music Opens Spring Semester with Virtual Faculty Gala
Public Invited to Free Livestream Performance of Crane Faculty Showcase on Friday, Feb. 5
Potsdam, NY (02/02/2021) — SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will open the semester with the annual Spring Faculty Showcase, offering listeners the opportunity to hear performances from Crane's renowned faculty in a livestreamed concert on Friday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. The virtual format continues in keeping with public health precautions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year's concert will include works by Antonin Dvorák, Imre Kálmán, John Rosamund Johnson, Ruggero Leoncavallo, Kevin McKee, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Niccoló Paganini, Elizabeth Raum and Judith Zaimont.
The Faculty Gala will stream live online on Friday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m., on Crane's YouTube channel and Facebook page. The links and program information are available at www.potsdam.edu/cranelive.
The performance-offering a mix of recently recorded and live performances-will feature Crane's new Interim Dean Lonel Woods (tenor), in addition to other vocalists, including Margaret Chalker (soprano), Donald George (tenor) and Nicholas Kilkenny (baritone).
"This program is a mix of solo and chamber music, highlighting the recent projects of our talented faculty," said Dr. Charles Guy, Crane professor of tuba-euphonium.
Instrumental contributions will be heard from Brianne Borden (trumpet), Marie-Élaine Gagnon (cello), Charles Guy (tuba), Casey Grev (saxophone), Lauren Becker (horn), Anna Hendrickson (oboe), Julianne Kirk-Doyle (clarinet) and Carol Lowe (bassoon). Listeners will also be treated to pianists Gary Busch, Jeff Francom, Ling Lo, Julie Miller and Young-Ah Tak. The event would not be possible without the significant contributions of audio and visual staff, including Meggie George, Douglas McKinnie and Rob Zolnar.
