SUNY Potsdam Receives Additional $1.1 Million Funding Allocation
SUNY Announces 8.4% Increase in Funding for SUNY Potsdam Campus in Fiscal Year 2025 Enacted Budget
Potsdam, NY (05/03/2024) — The State University of New York Board of Trustees has announced the additional allocation of $1.1 million in Direct State Tax Support for the SUNY Potsdam campus, an 8.4 percent increase over the last fiscal year.
The boost goes above and beyond the elevated support that was set in last year's historic state funding increase, for a total of $3.6 million in additional ongoing support for the SUNY Potsdam campus -- a 33.4 percent increase in Direct State Tax Support over the past two years.
"We are gratified that SUNY Potsdam has received an increase of more than $1 million in our budget allocation from the State University of New York System, expanding on last year's historic increase in public higher education funding across New York State. Thanks to our increased support, we will be able to advance strategic priorities on both the campus and the System level, in order to better serve students today, while preparing them for tomorrow," said SUNY Potsdam President Dr. Suzanne R. Smith. "Governor Hochul and the State Legislature have shown their confidence in the SUNY System to transform lives through this budget. We are thankful to them and to our legislators -- particularly State Assemblymember Scott Gray and State Senator Daniel Stec -- for advocating for our campus and recognizing its positive impact on the North Country region."
The funding will provide $2,858,822 total in ongoing operating support for SUNY Potsdam in 2024-25, plus a total of $239,000 to support student internship experiences. In addition, the allocation includes $4,200 for graduate student fees, $27,700 to address food insecurity, $250,000 to assist students with disabilities and $250,000 for mental health support.
The funding marks a historic investment under Governor Kathy Hochul's leadership, with the combined 2023-24 and 2024-25 budgets representing the largest two-year infusion in at least five decades, with an increase of $277 million in Direct State Tax Support allocated to SUNY.
