SUNY Potsdam Offers Virtual 'FAFSA 101' Workshops for Students and Families
Demystify Financial Aid with Free FAFSA 101 Sessions Led by SUNY Potsdam Experts on Dec. 7 and Dec. 9
Potsdam, NY (11/24/2021) — Applying for aid can be one of the most daunting parts of the college search process -- but it's critical to ensure that students get the full amount of financial aid they are qualified for.
According to Form Your Future, each year, students miss out on more than $24 billion of financial aid that they would have otherwise been qualified for, all because they didn't complete their FAFSA (Free Application For Student Aid).
The expert financial aid staff in SUNY Potsdam's One Stop office are ready to take the stress out of applying for aid, through their upcoming free "FAFSA 101" virtual sessions. All prospective college students and families are welcome.
SUNY Potsdam Financial Aid Director Courtney Rust '15 will lead two free public crash courses to walk students and families through the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) process, cost of attendance details, sources of aid, and more.
"Early FAFSA filing is essential in the student aid process. It is my pleasure to help students and their families complete this important part of the college experience. Events like this are essential to support our prospective students in their financial aid experience," Rust said.
The "FAFSA 101: What You Need to Know" sessions will be offered on Tuesday, Dec. 7, and Thursday, Dec. 9. Both sessions will be held at 6:30 p.m. All prospective college students are welcome to attend.
To register for one of the free virtual sessions, visit https://apply.potsdam.edu/portal/finaid.
Beyond the basics, the session will also cover commonly asked questions about special circumstances, such as how things like the loss of employment, unusual medical expenses, death in the family, or other situations can impact financial aid.
Current students with any financial aid questions should contact the One Stop office at onestop@potsdam.edu.
