SUNY Potsdam Launches New Criminal Justice Camp for High School Students

SUNY Potsdam Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice to Host Weeklong Day Camp from Aug. 3 to 7

Potsdam, NY (06/18/2026) — SUNY Potsdam's Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice will offer a new hands-on learning opportunity for local high school students this summer, with the launch of its Criminal Justice Camp from Aug. 3 to 7 on campus.

The weeklong day camp will give students in Grades 9 to 12 the chance to engage with real professionals and gain insight into careers in law enforcement and related fields.

Participants will take part in activities such as fingerprint analysis, forensic anthropology exercises, emergency vehicle operations, K9 unit demonstrations, self-defense and more. The program will conclude with a mock trial and a crime scene mystery challenge, allowing students to apply the lessons they learned throughout the week, followed by a final ceremony.

"This camp offers students a unique opportunity to explore the field of criminal justice through hands-on experiences and direct interaction with professionals," said lead instructor, Professor Dr. David Bugg. "We hope to inspire the next generation of leaders in law enforcement and related fields."

Criminal Justice Camp will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to noon daily, from Monday, Aug. 3 to Friday, Aug. 7.

Registration is now open for students in Grades 9 to 12. Tuition is $100 for the full week.

To register, visit www.potsdam.edu/community, and click the "Youth Programs and Camps" tab.
