SUNY Potsdam Hosts Hundreds of Athletes and 17 Ice Hockey Contests for Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games

The North Country Welcomes 1,500 Elite College Athletes from Around the World for Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games

Potsdam, NY (01/03/2023) — The State University of New York at Potsdam is set to welcome nearly 500 ice hockey players from around the world, along with coaches and support staff, for the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games. SUNY Potsdam will host the Athletes Village for the World University Games in Knowles Hall, along with 17 hockey games to be played in the Maxcy Hall Ice Arena.

From Jan. 12 to 22, New York State will host 1,500 elite college athletes from 600 universities and 50 nations as they compete across 12 winter sports and 86 medal events. The majority of events will take place at the newly-renovated Lake Placid Olympic facilities and other ORDA venues including Mt. Van Hoevenberg, Gore, and Whiteface Mountain. Nearby, the Saranac Lake Civic Center will hold 24 curling games while to the west, SUNY Canton, SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University will host 45 ice hockey face-offs.

Lake Placid's Main Street will also be closed off for the duration of the Games for the FISU Games Festival, which will host local vendors, interactive winter sports activities, and free concerts every night.

Tickets are now on sale for the hockey games and all other events. All games will stream live online at fisu.tv, with the finals being broadcast on ESPN and ESPN+.
