SUNY Potsdam Department of Theatre and Dance Presents Fall Mainstage Production, 'Ready Steady Yeti Go'
Live Theatre Returns to SUNY Potsdam's Performing Arts Center with Department of Theatre and Dance Production of 'Ready Steady Yeti Go' from Oct. 21 to 24
Potsdam, NY (10/15/2021) — SUNY Potsdam's Department of Theatre and Dance is celebrating the return of live performances with its fall mainstage production of David Jacobi's "Ready Steady Yeti Go." The satirical comedy will be presented in the Black Box Theater in the Performing Arts Center from Oct. 21 to Oct. 24.
"Ready Steady Yeti Go" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. from Thursday, Oct. 21 to Saturday, Oct. 23, with a matinee show on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for senior citizens, SUNY Potsdam students, and children under 18. Please note that all audience members will be required to show proof of vaccination before entering the Black Box Theater and will be asked to wear face coverings throughout the show.
"Students in the Department of Theatre and Dance have asked the faculty to present more plays with themes about social issues. 'Ready Steady Yeti Go' is our second show in a row to tackle the issues our students are most concerned about, in this case racism," said Dr. Jay Pecora, department chair and director of the show. About David Jacobi's "Ready Steady Yeti Go":
In the aftermath of a hate crime, junior high pariah Goon befriends one of the victims, Carly, the only Black girl in school. While the town plans a rally "to destroy racism forever," a youthful romance blossoms and the two must navigate the pitfalls of falling in love while dealing with the town's prying eyes, especially those of Wikipedia Jones, the crime-solving son of the chief of police. Passive-aggressive antics, bad parental advice, and ill-informed gestures of kindness create a "white guilt perfect storm" that threatens to make the course of true love a rocky road indeed.
The all-student cast stars Ayusha Benjamin (Carly), Jemdryl De la Cruz Bueno (Barry), Kameron Daily (Gandry) Elinor Greenway (Katie) and Phil Valluzzi (Goon).
