SUNY Potsdam Chemistry Professor Publishes Papers with Students and Alumni

SUNY Potsdam Chemistry Professor Dr. Fadi Bou-Abdallah Co-Authors Four Journal Articles with Undergraduates and Recent Graduates

Potsdam, NY (01/13/2023) — Research by SUNY Potsdam Professor of Chemistry Dr. Fadi Bou-Abdallah was recently published in five peer-reviewed scientific journals with high impact factors. The papers were co-authored with SUNY Potsdam undergraduate students, postbaccalaureate students, a postdoctoral researcher and one recent alumnus.

The co-authors included:

  • Nicholas Flint '20, a biochemistry alumnus who is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at Colorado State University
  • Nathan Hunter '22, a recent biology graduate who is currently working as a postbaccalaureate researcher in Bou-Abdallah's lab.
  • Aliaksandra Reutovich '22, a Goldwater Scholar and recent biology and biochemistry graduate who is currently working as a postbaccalaureate researcher in Bou-Abdallah's lab.
  • Lucas Scalcione '24, a biology major and current undergraduate researcher.
  • Gideon Smith '22, a recent chemistry graduate with dual minors in biology and wilderness education.
  • Ayush Srivastava, a postdoctoral researcher in Bou-Abdallah's lab.

Bou-Abdallah works extensively with undergraduates in his lab, supported by major grant funding to support his research. He currently has two ongoing grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes for Health totaling more than $800,000 to support his research on the body's storage and release of iron, and how imbalances in those mechanisms may lead to iron-related diseases, including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
