SUNY Potsdam Announces Return of Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series

SUNY Potsdam Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series Features Free Fall Talks on Range of Topics

Potsdam, NY (08/12/2025) — SUNY Potsdam will welcome back guests and faculty for the 2025-26 Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series again this academic year.

The line-up of speakers for the Fall 2025 semester will cover a range of topics, including mathematics education, grant writing during uncertain times, effective classroom applications for artificial intelligence, and a review of pandemic-era education policies, among other topics.

The Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar is sponsored by SUNY Potsdam's School of Education and Professional Studies. Since its inception in 2007, the School has hosted more than 180 presentations as part of the annual seminar.

All seminar meetings will be offered on Wednesdays, on the Rebecca V. Sheard Literacy Center balcony, from noon to 1 p.m. There will also be a virtual viewing option available via Zoom. These events are free, and the public is welcome to attend.

The sessions for the Fall 2025 Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series are as follows:

  • Sept. 3: Holly E. Marcolina (Department of Teacher Education): "It's Up to You, New York (Schools): A Retrospective Case Study of Pandemic-Era Education Policies"
  • Sept. 17: Jack McGuire (Director, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs/Department of Politics): "Grant Writing in a Time of Uncertainty"
  • Oct. 8: Michael L. Decker (Department of Business Administration): "Trust in Artificial Intelligence"
  • Oct. 29: Pooja Saxena (Department of Teacher Education): "From Teacher-Crafted to AI-Supported: Cognitive Apprenticeship in Questioning for Middle School Mathematics"
  • Nov. 19: Sarah A. Solley and Sergei Abramovich (Department of Teacher Education): "When Voices of Dislike Pretend Supporting Advocacy in Mathematics Teacher Education"
