Media Advisory: Campus and Community Officials to Hold Banner-Raising Ceremony in Downtown Potsdam

'One Community, Working Together to Stop the Spread' Banners to be Unveiled in Downtown Potsdam on Feb. 9 at 3 p.m.

Potsdam, NY (02/05/2021) — Clarkson University President Tony Collins and SUNY Potsdam President Kristin G. Esterberg will join with local officials and public health partners to unveil banners urging solidarity in the fight against COVID-19 next week.

The officials will raise the last lightpole banner in downtown Potsdam on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 3 p.m., in the vicinity of 17 Market St. The banner raising event will be held, snow or shine -- although in the event of inclement weather, remarks may be curtailed.

Potsdam's new banners celebrate "One Community, Working Together to Stop the Spread," with images of the two campus mascots, Max C. Bear and the Golden Knight, with reminders to wear masks, wash hands and socially distance. The event will highlight the ongoing efforts at the universities, the local partnerships that have been critical to campus and community safety, and to remind the public about the importance of working together to limit the spread of the virus.

There will be brief remarks and a photo, and opportunities to take questions. Masks are required and all COVID-19 protocols will be followed.
