Crane School of Music Honors Late Dean Emeritus Dr. Lonel Woods with Memorial Concert

SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music Honors Legacy of Dean Emeritus Dr. Lonel Woods (Hon. '20) with Memorial Concert Set for Saturday, Oct. 23

Potsdam, NY (10/19/2021) — SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will honor its late Dean Emeritus Dr. Lonel Woods (Hon. '20) with a special memorial concert on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m., in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall.

The concert will feature more than 30 faculty members, 250 students, and 40 alumni from The Crane School of Music, as well as guest artists and SUNY Potsdam dancers. Various ensembles will be featured, including the Crane Latin Ensemble, West African Drum and Dance Ensemble, the Phoenix Club, Aria Reed Trio, Crane Chorus, Potsdam Brass Quintet, and others. A new work for chorus by composer Shavon Lloyd '19 will also be premiered.

A number of alumni are set to return to their alma mater to perform with fellow members of Dr. Woods' voice studio from throughout the years as part of the performance. This musical tribute to Dr. Woods' life and legacy is the major highlight of Crane's yearlong "Peace and Love" theme in his honor.

This concert is free to the public, and can be streamed online via YouTube at the performance time, at www.potsdam.edu/cranelive. Face coverings are required for those attending in person.

Dr. Lonel Woods served on the faculty of The Crane School of Music for 12 years and was serving as dean upon his unexpected death in May 2021. Learn more about his life and legacy, and his reflections on inclusion in the arts here.
