Crane School of Music Composition Students Premiere New Works

SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music Hosts Student Composers Forum Concert on Oct. 16

Potsdam, NY (10/09/2018) — Five music composition students from SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music are set to premiere their latest new works in a student composers forum concert, on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater.

The concert will open with "Tortured," a recent piece by Skye Hamilton-Carranza, featuring two saxophone quartets performing alongside the composer on piano. That will be followed by Matthew Mazer's "Lullaby," written for string quartet.

The first movement of Brooke D'Aprile's work, "Honeoye," titled "The Lake," will feature a woodwind ensemble, followed by a solo clarinet piece ("Variations on a Theme") written by Alex Malin. "Wandering," a piece for oboe and piano by Maxime Eilles Esformes, will then be debuted.

The performance will conclude with another work by Hamilton-Carranza, titled "Steel," featuring a large woodwind ensemble, piano, marimba and percussion.

This event is free, and the public is invited to attend.
