Potsdam, NY (07/06/2022) — Community Performance Series will present a production of the musical comedy "Once Upon a Mattress" this summer at SUNY Potsdam. The show will run from Thursday, July 14 through Sunday, July 17, with five show times, in the Proscenium Theater, located in SUNY Potsdam's Performing Arts Center.

In this musical comedy version of "The Princess and the Pea," Princess Winnifred, played by Hailey Hodge, is an ungainly, brash girl competing for the hand of Prince Dauntless, played by George Scoville-Upham '99, whose domineering mother Queen Aggravain, played by Meaghan Janovsky '07 & '12, has declared he must marry a "true" princess before anyone else in the kingdom can marry.

The show, directed by Kimberly Busch '93 & '96, features more than 50 talented actors, vocalists, artists and musicians from around the Northern New York region.

"We are so happy to be working on a real community theatre production in such a wonderful facility at SUNY Potsdam," Busch shared. "Every rehearsal is filled with the smiles and laughter of people doing what they love. We can't wait to share this great joy with others."

"We are so fortunate to have the talent of incredible professionals right here in our backyard," noted Community Performance Series Director Vanessa Vaverchak. "This production has been a labor of love, and we are grateful to the many dedicated folks involved in bringing a summer musical back to our community."

"Once Upon a Mattress" will open on Thursday, July 14, with daily evening performances at 7:30 p.m. through Saturday, July 16. There will be two matinee shows, at 2 p.m., on Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17.
