Blueline Literary Magazine at SUNY Potsdam Publishes 46th Edition

'Blueline: A Literary Magazine Dedicated to the Spirit of the Adirondacks' Announces Publication of New Volume

Potsdam, NY (07/30/2025) — The editors of Blueline: A Literary Magazine Dedicated to the Spirit of the Adirondacks have released its 46th volume. Blueline was established in 1979 by the editor Alice Wolf Gilborn in Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y. Ten years later, Gilborn arranged for Blueline to find a permanent home within the Department of English at SUNY Potsdam, where the magazine remains in residence today. Each year, Blueline sustains its original mission: to publish the highest quality poetry, fiction, nonfiction and visual art about the Adirondacks and regions similar in spirit and geography.

After decades of continuous publication, Blueline remains one of America's longest running nature magazines. It's SUNY Potsdam's voice for promoting great literature about the North Country as a unique region in the world. The magazine features both new and established writers and artists in every issue. While always focused on the Adirondacks, Blueline also includes fine writing about places as far afield as North Dakota and as close to home as the Hudson Valley. The magazine is widely respected for its quality and longevity.

Blueline's editors are committed to providing excellent applied learning opportunities for campus interns every semester. Students at SUNY Potsdam can serve the magazine in ways that prepare them well for careers in editing and publishing, public relations, cultural advocacy, environmental stewardship, among other areas. The editors have recently collaborated with interns from a variety of disciplines, including English, graphic design and new media, environment and sustainability, computer science, business administration and finance.

Blueline's editors are proud to participate in this summer's Presidential Internship Program (PIP), launched this year by the Lougheed Center for Applied Learning. This year's PIP intern, Emily Taylor, is a double major in business administration and English in applied writing, with a minor in marketing. Taylor's majors and minor intersect perfectly with the editors' continuous promotion of Blueline to regional bookstores, libraries and subscribers. Her internship focuses on community outreach and contributes dynamically to Blueline's advertising campaigns with local media, as well as the magazine's connections with the arts community in the North Country.

This year's poets include David Radavich, Katharyn Howd Machan, Cathy Cultice Lentes, Lee Slonimsky, Pam Clements, Joseph Bruchac, Grace Vermeer, James Deahl, Dale Hobson, and 35 other dynamic poets. The volume also includes excellent short stories as well, by Susan J. Newell, Roger Sheffer, Maisie McAdoo and Margaret S. Marangione. Volume 46 also features stunning regional photography by Barry Lobdell and vibrant fine art by Janet Millstein. The photograph on the magazine's cover, included here, is called "Oseetah Moment," by Lobdell.

Individual copies of Blueline are $18, and can be purchased by contacting the editors at blueline@potsdam.edu. Copies are also for sale at SLC Arts, TAUNY, Brick and Mortar Music, the Brewer Bookstore at St. Lawrence University, Birchbark Bookshop, The Wild Center, The Mountaineer, Bookstore Plus, The Saranac Lake Village Mercantile, Hoss's Country Corner, Adirondack Reflections and Old Forge Hardware.

Subscriptions are also available for purchase. Three-year subscriptions within the United States are $40. For international addresses, three-year subscriptions are $48.
