Crane School of Music Student & Faculty Ensembles Take Center Stage in Upcoming Concerts

SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music Welcomes Audiences for Upcoming Free Performances

Potsdam, NY (10/17/2025) — SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will feature its talented students and faculty in a series of upcoming live performances to close out the month.

All performances are free, and the public is invited to attend.

On Monday, Oct. 20, the Crane Wind Ensemble will present a fall concert, titled "The Dark Hour Ere Dawn," at 7:30 p.m., in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall. Conducted by Brian K. Doyle, the concert will open with Gustav Holst's "First Suite in E-Flat for Military Band, Op. 28, No. 1." Lindsay Bronnenkant's three-movement work, "Tarot," inspired by Holst's experimentation in incorporating Indian musical themes and ragas into his music, will follow. The concert will also feature Roshanne Etezady's "Anahita," which draws inspiration from a painting by the artist William Morris Hunt which was on the ceiling of the New York State Assembly in Albany until being ruined by the elements. Finally, the concert will conclude with "Of Our New Day Begun" by Omar Thomas, which honors the nine killed in a 2015 shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C.

Continuing the busy schedule of performances, The Crane School of Music is also set to offer upcoming concerts by:

  • The Crane Trombone Choir and Trumpet Ensemble, performing Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m., in Hosmer Hall.
  • The Potsdam Brass Quintet, performing Monday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m., in Snell Theater.
  • The Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble and Horn Choir, performing Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m., in Hosmer Hall.
  • The Crane Brass Ensemble, performing Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m., in Hosmer Hall.

The events are a community benefit of being home to one of the premier schools of music in the nation -- and thanks to livestreaming, anyone anywhere can watch and enjoy. For program details and more information on these and other upcoming performances, please visit www.potsdam.edu/cranelive.
