SUNY Potsdam Student Rebecca Hyatt Commissioned into U.S. Army as Second Lieutenant

Three SUNY Potsdam Army Reserve Officers Training Corps cadets were commissioned into the U.S. Army at the grade of Second Lieutenant on May 16, as part of the College's Commencement weekend.

The new Lieutenants included Rebecca Hyatt of Potsdam, NY, whose major is Psychology.

The three SUNY Potsdam graduates completed their ROTC training through the Golden Knight Battalion based at neighboring Clarkson University, Potsdam.

The commissioning ceremony featured comments from SUNY Potsdam Interim President Dr. Dennis L. Hefner, and from guest speaker Colonel Bill Murphy. The ceremony included the swearing in of the new officers, the pinning of their gold bars by family members and the traditional first salute, known as the silver dollar salute.
