Upcoming Crane School of Music Concerts Feature World Premieres, Student Composers and Major Ensembles

SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music Welcomes Audiences for Upcoming Concerts and Recitals

Potsdam, NY (02/13/2026) — SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will feature its talented students and world-renowned faculty artists in a series of upcoming live performances this spring.

All performances are free, and the public is invited to attend.

The Crane Wind Ensemble will present "Houses of the Sacred and Profane" on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m., in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall. The concert will open with "Little Threepenny Music," featuring selections from "The Threepenny Opera" by Kurt Weill, followed by Aaron Copeland's "El Salon Mexico." Following a brief intermission, the ensemble will present the world premiere of "More Than This" by Crane School of Music student Ryan Godfrey '26, who said the work was inspired by Patrick Ness' novel of the same name. The concert will close with Kristin Kuster's "Interior" and Carlos Simon's "AMEN!" Formed in 1956 by Willard Musser, the Crane Wind Ensemble comprises 58 of the most outstanding wind and percussion majors in The Crane School of Music.

In a performance that had been previously rescheduled, Dr. Young-Ah Tak (piano) will present a faculty recital on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m., in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater. She will present Ludwig van Beethoven's "Piano Sonata, Op. 10, No. 2 in F-Major" and Franz Schubert's "Impromptu in G-Flat Major, Op. 90, No. 3." She will be joined by her colleague, Dr. Risa Okina (piano) for a rendition of Beethoven's "Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-Flat Major, Op. 73," known as the "Emperor Concerto," to close the program.

The Student Composers Forum will feature an evening of works composed by current Crane School of Music students, on Monday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m., also in Snell Theater. Ten up-and-coming composers will have their newest works performed, including pieces for fixed media, piano, flute, euphonium, snare drum, voice/piano and small ensembles.

The busy schedule will continue with a series of ensemble concerts at 7:30 p.m.:

  • Wednesday, Feb. 25: Crane Symphony Orchestra concert in Hosmer Hall
  • Thursday, Feb. 26: Joint concert, Crane Symphonic Band and Crane Concert Band, Hosmer Hall
  • Friday, Feb. 27: Crane Jazz Ensemble concert in the Proscenium Theater, Performing Arts Center

The Student Honors Recital will be held on Monday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Snell Theater. Featuring outstanding student performers selected by the Crane faculty, the recital will be a showcase of emerging talent. This semester's honors recital performers include:

  • Jake Hutton, piano
  • Bailey Yerdon, percussion
  • Josh Coldren, euphonium
  • Paolina Iori, violin
  • Catherine Boyd, soprano
  • Vincent Reyes, tenor
