SUNY Potsdam to Celebrate Class of 2024 at Commencement

SUNY Potsdam Prepares to Honor Nearly 1,200 Graduates at Commencement on May 18

Potsdam, NY (05/07/2024) — The State University of New York at Potsdam will honor the Class of 2024, as hundreds of students earn their undergraduate and graduate degrees, during the College's 204th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 18.

This year, SUNY Potsdam is set to honor nearly 1,200 candidates for graduation, including all students who earned their degree or were eligible to graduate in 2023-24. Of those, 459 bachelor's graduates and 305 master's graduates are currently set to cross the stage during the ceremony.

The College will hold its Commencement Ceremony outside in the Academic Quad, rain or shine, unless there are extreme weather conditions. Guests are asked to dress appropriately for the weather, and bring umbrellas, blankets or sunscreen if needed. There will be an option for guests who are uncomfortable with weather conditions to watch the ceremony live on a large screen inside, in the Barrington Student Union Multi-Purpose Room.

For family and friends around the world, SUNY Potsdam will stream the ceremony live on the College's YouTube channel again this year.

There is an emergency weather plan for Commencement, in case of extreme conditions like lightning or freezing temperatures. Under the emergency plan, there would be two ceremonies held back-to-back, at 10:15 a.m. and 3 p.m., in the Maxcy Hall Ice Arena. Graduates would be divided into two groups and given four tickets for guests. Overflow seating would be made available in the Jerry Welsh Gymnasium.

Immediately following the ceremony, a reception will be held for graduates and guests.
