SUNY Potsdam Announces Return of Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series

Associate Vice Provost Jill Pearon to Speak About Business Practices in Higher Education to Kick Off Seminar Series

Potsdam, NY (08/20/2019) — Associate Vice Provost Dr. Jill Pearon will open the 2019-20 Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar Series at SUNY Potsdam, with a presentation at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Pearon's presentation, "To Biz, or Not to Biz: Should Higher Education Employ Business Practices?," will examine the advantages and challenges of applying business practices in college and university administration. Pearon, who is also the acting director of the Center for Creative Instruction, will discuss history and trends, while considering both faculty and administrative perspectives.

The Disciplined Inquiry in Education Seminar is sponsored by SUNY Potsdam's School of Education and Professional Studies. Since its inception 12 years ago, the School has hosted more than 120 presentations as part of the annual seminar.

All seminar meetings will be offered on Wednesdays, in the Rebecca V. Sheard Literacy Center, from noon to 1 p.m. These events are free, and the public is welcome to attend.

  • Sept. 18: Lynn Hall, "Pubs, Hubs and Reading Revolutions: In Search of Community and Literacy in the United Kingdom"
  • Oct. 9: Kaamel Nuhu, "Effectiveness of Screening Colonoscopy in Reducing the Incidence of Colorectal Cancer"
  • Oct. 30: Heather Dodds, "Back to the Future: From Science Fiction to Science Future, by Using Patterns to Predict the Future of Educational Technology"
  • Nov. 13: Abere Kassa, "Beyond the Curtain: The Negative Effects of Organizational Citizenship Behavior on Employees"
