Crane School of Music Student Ensembles Take Center Stage in Upcoming Concerts

SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music Welcomes Audiences for Upcoming Free Performances

Potsdam, NY (11/07/2025) — SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will feature its talented students in a series of nearly daily upcoming live performances in November.

All performances are free, and the public is invited to attend.

In a concert titled "Time," the Crane Concert Choir and Hosmer Choir will perform together on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m., in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater. Directed by P. Wesley Roy, the Hosmer Choir will present works representing beginning/birth, middle/life and the end/death. The Concert Choir, directed by Nils Klykken, will present pieces representing time in all its conceptions and perceptions.

With another performance to get audiences grooving and moving, the Crane Latin Ensemble will perform an evening concert on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m., in the Proscenium Theater. The group is directed by Peter McCoy. The performance is titled "Vamonos pa'l Monte! A Tribute to Eddie Palmieri." It will feature pieces by Rudy Calzado, Cole Porter, Alvara Carrillo Alarcon, Arjen Attema, James Moody, Rodrigo Amarante, Zequinha de Abreu, Christian Tumalan, Tito Puente and Palmieri himself.

The Crane Flute Choir and Crane Clarinet Choir will join forces for a shared concert on Monday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m., in Snell Theater. Taking the stage first, the Crane Clarinet Choir, which is directed by Christine Hoerning, will present a set of Japanese songs by Masato Tajino, works by Roy Greaves and Patrick Hiketick, as well as an arrangement of George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue." Then, the Crane Flute Choir, directed by Brian Dunbar, will present works by Nina Shekar, Gareth McLearnon, Zachery Meier, Sam Fettig and Valerie Coleman.

The Crane Concert Band, directed by Jill Roberts, will offer a wide-ranging program at its performance on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m., in Hosmer Hall. The concert will include Katahj Copley's "AYO," Ron Nelson's "Resonances I," Alfred Reed's "First Suite for Band," Catherine Likhuta's "Me Disagrees," Philip Sparke's "Sunrise at Angel's Gate" and Julie Giroux's "Circus Franticus."

Next up is the Crane Symphonic Band, performing on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m., also in Hosmer Hall. In a concert conducted by Brian K. Doyle, the band will present Jack Stump's "Gavorkna Fanfare," Hale Smith's "Take a Chance," Adam Gorb's "Yiddish Dances," Frank Ticheli's arrangement of "Amazing Grace" and Yasuhide Ito's "Gloriosa."

Continuing the busy schedule of performances, The Crane School of Music is also set to offer upcoming concerts by:

  • The Eclectic Ensemble, performing Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m., in the Proscenium Theater.
  • The Crane Percussion Ensemble, performing Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m., in Snell Theater.
  • The Crane West African Drum and Dance Ensemble, performing Friday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m., in Snell Theater.
  • The traditional Crane Candlelight Concert will be held on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m., also in Hosmer Hall. More details on this holiday season classic will soon be announced.
  • To close the semester, the Crane Wind Ensemble will offer its final fall concert on Monday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m., in Hosmer Hall.
