Crane Professor Donald George Pens Chapter about Studying Music in New Reference for College-Bound Students

Potsdam, NY (05/02/2018) — Professor Donald George, a faculty member at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music, wrote a chapter in a newly-published book designed for college-bound students.

The longtime voice professor wrote a chapter, titled "Five Questions by the Curious Student about the Study of Music," for the new book, "Celebrity, Music and Film Studies for the Curious." Released by Curious Academic Publishing, the book is a recommended academic reference for high school, college and university students considering a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree in celebrity, music or film studies.

According to George, "the study of music is not only an academic discipline but has the unique quality and ability to transmit emotions and ideas, not only of one's own culture but of other cultures and places." In the book, he discusses the many career opportunities available to music majors.

George also encourages curious students to plan for their specific music career development goals. "Be sure to take the specific action steps needed to implement your blueprint for success, so that, by becoming the person who is wanted for that position in the music industry, you will become the right person for a career in music," he said.

"Celebrity, Music and Film Studies for the Curious" is now available on Amazon as a Kindle edition and will be in print soon as well.

George is also the co-author of the book "Master Singers: Advice from the Stage," which he wrote with pianist Lucy Mauro. Published by Oxford University Press, that book includes interviews with 21 opera singers, ranging from the most sought-after talents to rising stars. Two Crane School of Music alumni, mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe '92 and tenor Dimitri Pittas '99, are featured in the book.
