Crane Brass Ensemble Presents Familiar Favorites & Dramatic Works in Fall Concert

SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music Hosts Crane Brass Ensemble Performance on Nov. 11

Potsdam, NY (11/04/2019) — The Crane Brass Ensemble will perform in concert on Monday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m., in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music. The 24-member ensemble under the direction of James Madeja includes the top brass and percussion performers at The Crane School of Music.

The program features a variety of literature, from "Canzon Noni Toni" by the late 16th century Italian composer, Giovanni Gabrieli, to the "Fanfare" from Igor Stravinsky's opera "The Rake's Progress," and Richard Wagner's "Funeral March" from the opera "Die Götterdämmerung."

The two featured works on the program are the "Symphony for Brass and Percussion" by Alfred Reed and "The Blade of Spain" by Anthony DiLorenzo. "The Blade of Spain" is a programmatic work that tells the story Don Alfeñiquén, nobleman and protector of the people of the Spanish province of Navarre in the years following the Inquisition. Known as "The Man in the Black Mask," Don Alfeñiquén is slain at the hand of the nefarious Diego Garcia. Alfeñiquén's daughter. Habiba, a skilled sword-fighter in her own right, avenges her father's death with the blade of her rapier and restores power to the people of Navarre.

This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.

This concert will be broadcast live on the Crane School of Music YouTube channel at the performance time. To view the program and see other upcoming streaming performances, visit http://www.potsdam.edu/academics/Crane/streaming.
